Skylake North Miami Beach
09/21/2023 -
Dear all,
In the last couple of weeks a group of us have actively been working on bettering the algae situation of the lake.
After consideration and talking to multiple lake management companies we decided to take the following actions:
Increase our carp permit to 200 fish and order 100 additional Carps to stock on the lake. (Last stocking was in November 2022 of 50 Carps) The recommendation from both Miami-Dade and all the management companies is that we need to have up to 10 carps/acre our lake is 21.5 acres
Establish with the company a maintenance program to avoid the ecosystem spiraling out of control again.
Today we are applying herbicides to the lake in order to start the algae control process. You will notice that the water has a darker coloration as a result.
This process is not harmful to the fauna of the lake and the purpose it to significantly reduce the level of Hydrilla plant (invasive species) currently in the lake.
In the following two weeks you will notice that the plants will start dying and coming up to the surface and they later they will break down and sink back to the ground.
PLEASE REFRAIN FROM SWIMMING IN THE LAKE FOR TWO DAYS .
This process will be repeated two more times in the next couple of months and later we will begin the maintenance monthly spraying which will require less product to be applied.
Our goal is to bring the lake back to its prime condition for our enjoyment.
We will be following up with everyone to keep you updated and reestablish the fund collection for the lake maintenance and upkeep.
Best regards,
Skylake Association
